How to Make Mee Goreng Basah
Malaysian Stir fried noodles, Mee Goreng
Mee Goreng Basah is a popular stir fried noodle dish that can be found at many street stalls found in Malaysia and Singapore.
½ Red onion
1 ½ tbsp Sambal Nasi Lemak Sijori
2 tbp Tomato sauce
50g Choy sum
1 ½ Tomato
½ Green Chilli
2tbsp Kicap Kipas manis - Sweet Soy sauce
1 ½ tbsp Cooking caramel
5 Tofu puffs
Heat oil in wok and sauté onions till softens.
Add Sijori Sambal Nasi Lemak and tomato sauce. Sauté for a couple of minutes.
Add carrot, choy sum stalk and cook through for a minute.
Combine noodles, tofu, fishball and fishcake and stir well. Add ½ cup of water and let the noodles absorb the liquid.
Add in sweet soy sauce and caramel sauce. Season to taste with salt, sugar and pepper.
Stir fry noodles for 5-6 mins until it softens. Add more water if you want the noodles to be saucier. Finally, toss in chilli and turn off heat.
Serve noodles with spring onions, fried shallot, lime and refreshing cucumber.
Replace Fishball and Fishcake to tofu and tempe to make it fully vegan-friendly.
